The new iPhone 13 was officially launched last week. Like every year, there are many users who have doubts regarding the news and changes that may have occurred. That’s why we’re going to take a closer look at the new iPhone 13 compared to last year’s iPhone 12.
We know that changes to Apple iPhones are usually very subtle from year to year. It is logical that those users who right now have an iPhone 8, an iPhone X, or even an iPhone 11, wonder if it is better to make the leap to the new iPhone 13 or take advantage of the better price that the iPhone 12 has right now. We cannot answer that question, but what we can do is take a look at the differences between the two generations.

In this regard, we can say that both iPhones are like two drops of water in a lake. The point is Apple has kept the same screen size of 6.1-inch size and Super Retina OLED technology with FullHD resolution for both. However, the new model discreetly reduces the upper notch compared to the iPhone 12. Its complete disappearance is not foreseen at the moment, but it is an advance for those who seek a more immersive experience on the screen.
It is also noteworthy that the iPhone 13 is thicker and heavier than the iPhone 12. This year’s model is 7.7 millimeters thick and weighs 174 grams, while the iPhone 12 is 7.4 millimeters thick and weighs 164 grams. It is not a difference that will be excessively noticeable in the pocket, but it is something to highlight in terms of differences.

According to Apple, the new A15 Bionic chip that integrates the iPhone 13 is 50% faster in CPU and 30% faster in GPU than the top-of-the-range models of its direct competition. However, on paper, the two generations offer unquestionable performance in multitasking activities and battery-consuming games. However, one of the big advantages of the new model is its greater energy efficiency.
In this sense, we must highlight a change at the design level, which will allow us to better identify who is carrying an iPhone 13 compared to past models. The main change is the position of the rear sensors. They are now located diagonally, instead of vertically as in the iPhone 12 and 11. However, at the hardware level little has changed, since both have two 12 megapixel rear sensors and a front sensor of the same capacity. Both record HDR video with Dolby Vision 4K at 30fps, but only the iPhone 13 can record video in cinematic mode (with shallow depth of field) at 1080p.
Apple does not indicate the battery capacity, but it is true that the iPhone 13 manages to boot more screen time. This is due to the efficiency of the processor and a slight increase in milliamps. Of course, both terminals are 5G and have all kinds of connections including Bluetooth 5, GPS, or NFC. The unlocking remains on the side of FaceID as a biometric sensor has not been integrated under the screen in the iPhone 13.
We cannot say that the changes are very significant between the two models. If you don’t have either one, saving on the iPhone 12 can be a great option. However, whether to buy the latest generation of iPhone depends on a number of factors such as customer loyalty towards the brand, the price, product features, and promotion.
