Google To Launch Gmail User Interface Available From February 2022
Google Spaces, Chat, and Meet ditch floating windows on top of the Gmail interface can be used in a unified space. The new view, available for the web version of the service, also incorporates some changes in the design.
Google continues to take steps to become an efficient collaborative work platform. Following the evolution of Gmail to Google Workspace last summer, the podium this week began rolling out a new integrated view that enhances the functionality of Google Spaces, Google Chat, Meet, and mail.
The user will quickly switch between meaningful inbox conversations and join meetings without jumping between tabs or opening a new window. The new integrated view also adds styling changes to the design by applying a bluish color palette and rounded corners, in line with Windows 11 design patterns.
The integrated view adds a new service access bar with Chat, Spaces, Meet, and Mail icons to the left of the column with the traditional Gmail main menu. What Google has done is unfold the compact main menu/extended main menu option available by clicking on the three horizontal lines icon in the upper left corner.
Gmail thus avoids the piling up of services and options that occur with the classic design. Along with these changes, Google will show results from chats and emails in the search bar.

How do I access the new Gmail design?
Google started the gradual deployment of the new integrated view on the 8th and will continue for a month. Users will receive an alert at the bottom of the screen and turn it on if they wish. If the result is not convincing, they will have the option to return to the classic design from the Gmail settings.
In April, it will be the default view for all users, even with returning to the previous design. But by the middle of the year, it will be the only view available, without the possibility of reverting to the classic design.
What Google has not clarified is whether the initial rollout of the new integrated view will reach users who have not yet activated the Chat and Spaces options in their Gmail and continue with the old Hangouts as a means of chatting with other contacts. If this is your case, you must follow the following steps to activate those services.
- Access Gmail with your browser.
- Click the gear icon in the upper right corner.
- Click See all settings in the quick settings menu that appears.
- Click the Chat and Meet tab.
- In the three options available in the Chat section, select Google Chat.
- Click OK on the pop-up window that welcomes you to Google Chat.
- Click Save Changes.
Next, Google shows you a small guide explaining what you can do with Chat, Spaces, and Meet. The three applications appear grouped in the left column, although, for now, you have the option also to place them on the right in another column. However, this possibility will disappear when the new integrated view is mandatory for all users.
